PostSubject: Video Settings....   Tue Jan 13, 2015 11:37 am

Can people please copy and paste their video settings from their C:\Users\xxx\Documents\DayZ\DayZ.cfg - I've tried using the ones from the pinned dayz forums http://steamcommunity.com/app/221100/discussions/0/540744935156985772/ but it hasnt helped. I get bad video lag to the point where I get a migraine and about throw up after playing this. I've tried just about everything except buying more pc crap - part of the reason I purchased my last video card. I only ever had one other game that did this to me that I couldnt play - a fps demo cat and I played a long time ago. It's almost as though it's motion lag or sickness.

My PC should run this just fine - maybe it's just the way the graphics are I dunno.. I have all my Steam games installed to my SSD,

Looking through the Nvidia experience thing... anyone use the LED visualizer setting..?

Karl,

I set up and followed these steps to get optimal screen resolution settings it might help getting the FOV just right for your monitor.

http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/31609-ultimate-fov-field-of-view-guide-for-arma-2-and-dayz-from-dayzpvpcom/

Changing Your FOV

Although I have enjoyed many XBox360 or Playstation games in the past, one of the reasons that I almost always play on the PC is because of the ability (usually) to change your FOV. Some games have quick sliders of settings, but ArmA 2 does not. Matter of fact it is not easy at all for the average user to adjust their FOV so I am going to help you out.

  • Step 1. Navigate to My Documents/ArmA 2. Find the "Username".ArmA2OAProfile file. Make a copy of it somewhere to back it up. Open the file with Notepad or another text editor.
  • Step 2. Scroll towards the bottom of the file and look for the entries for fovTop and fovLeft. These are the values we will be changing, but please write the originals down if you didn't backup the file in case you need to revert.
  • Step 3. Use this calculatorto figure out your FOV values. Do not just put the number you want into the .ArmA2Profile file or it will not work. Pay attention to your Resolution(screen width and height).
  • Step 4. Input the following into a Google search bar - "x degrees in radians" without quotation marks, where x is the number you calculated in the previous step. Or use the formula (.0174)x with x being the result of Step 3. (thanks to subtle for the tip)
  • Step 5. Change the fovTop to the number you have now, which is your calculated FOV in radians. You should round off to 2 decimal places to the right.
  • Step 6. Grab a calculator (or type into a Google search bar) and DIVIDE your new fovTop number by the SECOND number in your monitors Aspect Ratio. Click here for a guide on how to figure out your Aspect Ratio. Find the box with your monitors Resolution and that color is the same as an Aspect Ratio circle in the lower right corner if you don't know it.
  • Step 7. Now take the result of Step 6 and MULTIPLY that by the FIRST number of your Aspect Ratio. Again, round off the number to 2 decimal places. Enter this number as your new fovLeft value.
  • Step 8. Save the new file. You should have a new FOV when you restart the game.

My settings are as follows:

fovTop=1.03;
fovLeft=1.83;

The file is in your My Documents\Dayz\ x.DayzProfile

Last page is where the FOV settings are above.
Save your original file and rename it just in case.

My monitor resolution is 1920 X 1200.

I was noticing since the last patch, It was bothering my eyes also. This seems to have helped me.

Here are mine:
fovTop= 1.13
fovLeft= 1.81

When you guys are running are your screen edges blurry but clear in the center? Like in an oval shape? I know I havent been following PC components much lately - but my hw and specs should be more than enough correct?

I currently have this monitor that has a 5ms response time - http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003Y3BJ7S/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1. They have a newer version of it with a 2ms response time http://www.amazon.com/ViewSonic-VX2452MH-24-Inch-LED-Lit-Monitor/dp/B00EZSUVHK/ref=dp_ob_title_ce. Would that make that much difference?

I doubt you are going to notice a difference between a 5 and 2 millisecond response time, and I think that response time has more to do with image "ghosting" than any issue with blurriness around the edges. It's possible your current monitor may have some other issue that is causing this problem, but I think its unlikely.

I am pretty sure the game has some setting for motion blur or something similar, but I assume you have checked that already. I also assume you have been through the in game video settings and have tried some of the numerous recommended video settings that are out there?

I've tried just about every in game settings as well as the recommended settings.

While looking at this 144hz monitor http://www.amazon.com/VG248QE-24-inch-LED-lit-Monitor-response/dp/B00B2HH7G0/ref=sr_1_7?ie=UTF8&qid=1421429904&sr=8-7&keywords=120Hz+PC+monitor there's several mentions of a 2D Lightboost hack in the reviews that "ends up eliminating almost every bit of motion blur and other such flaws of your typical LCD" - so that's something I need to find time to read an look into...

Lightboost hack - https://www.google.com/search?q=2D+Lightboost+hack&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8

BlurBusters - http://www.blurbusters.com/zero-motion-blur/lightboost/

"Of course, if you plan on using any of the new blur reducing technologies such as the 2D Lightboost hack, Gsync ULMB, and soon BenQ's Motion Blur Reduction, whether a monitor is PWM-free or not should not matter much to you as all of them achieve near-complete elimination of motion blur via backlight strobing, essentially a modified usage of PWM."

Do you think the 27" is worth the extra $100 over the 24". I know someone like Bull would gladly pay $100 for an extra three inches but Im not sure I need 27. What resolution are you playing DayZ at on 27. Also BenQ has the new G-Sync monitor but Im not sure the technology is ready yet... Pretty sure its 1920x1200 but I will doublecheck that when I get home. I always opt for as much monitor real estate as I can afford. And in Bull's case, 3 more inches doubles what he currently has....so I am sure its worth it for him.

Havent gotten a new monitor yet - didnt want to spend the $400+ atm. I see I am not the only one though...

Here's a video I took with this new patch. Watch it in HD and fullsize. Is this how it looks for everyone? Make sure to watch it in 1080p or it doesnt look clear (you can tell by the on screen messages if it's clear enough to gauge what I am seeing)

Its hard to tell if that is what my screen looks like as I don't typically run swinging wildly side to side. Try another video with you running in a straight line and I will give it another go.

I was reading up on a bunch of those other DAYZ Motion sickness migraine users and the things they tried. I changed two things that I think definitely helped that may also benefit everyone else. Turn OFF ALL POST PROCESSING in the games video settings and TURN OFF MOUSE SMOOTHING. I did both so I cant say for sure which helped more than the other. I really didnt notice much loss in video quality by turning off all post processing. Definitely helped with the blurriness around the edges and tunnel vision which they designed into the game to give it a motion feel while moving. Yesterday was the first day off of a 3 day migraine so my head really felt great - hopefully this helps even on my days...

I see the blurriness your talking about on the edges in your video. I will see if I notice that on mine tonight.

Doing the two above things I mentioned really helped with that blurriness, I think it would benefit you guys as well - looks crisper. Unfortunately after all the tweaking, drivers, and crap - it still gives me motion sickness - last night was better when I was messing around but still ended up ready to puke by the end. So until I get a new monitor I've uninstalled it - otherwise I'll just get frustrated with it and feel like crap to boot.
